Editor's note: Kendrais blogging about being a mom trying to rebound from the coronavirus pandemic at My Rebound by FOX 17. She is married with four kids: a 1-year-old daughter, 2-year-old son, 5-year-old son, 10-year-old daughter and 16-year-old bonus son. She is also the owner and lead fitness coach of Allegro Coaching in Grand Rapids, which she founded in 2009. She lives in Tallmadge Township.

It’s been 17 weeks. Almost halfway through a full-termed pregnancy and I simply hated being pregnant. There is no sign for my fitness facility of reopening anytime soon and when I signed up to write for the Rebound, I thought things would look vastly differently by now.

But here we are and we are not going down without a fight. Even though nothing has even been addressed to the wellness industry, we still have a message to give and an impact to make on our community. This past weekend, Allegro Coaching stormed down to Rosa Parks Circle to bring joy and unity to our community. We taught High Fitness to over 60 individuals who needed to be lifted UP! In the midst of so much division, anger, sadness and hopelessness, the one thing we can still do is empower others. When we are healthier, we are happier. When we live with more confidence, we bring joy to those around us. And when we empower others, we lift our daily spirits out of despair and depression.

Today was bittersweet. I was reminded how blessed I am to have a team that is tenacious, talented and oh so top-notch in the industry. My sadness was replaced with gratitude and my heart was filled with a new sense of purpose….even if just for the day.

It doesn’t make this any easier.

Doesn’t mean we won’t have to say goodbye to chapters in life and let go of dreams along the way. I’ve spent a decade pursuing this mission and pouring every resource and ounce of time into Allegro Coaching. And while I will need to reinvent and adapt my business model moving forward, this time has abruptly taught me that complacency gets you nowhere.

How about you? Have you wrestled with an abrupt change that you didn’t want to make but are forced to make and finally leave complacency behind? Stop stalling. Give it a chance. The memories of yesterday are meant to remind you of how far you have come. Today is the gift. Make the best of the day right in front of you. A great life is not built by revolution; it’s built by evolution. Small and steady wins the race. What you do every single day is simply your life in miniature. Write your life in 24 hour pockets of time and be grateful that you have this day in front of you.
