EAST LANSING, Mich. — The start of Spring sports in Michigan will be delayed from their original start date.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced Monday the Spring 2021 season will begin one week later than scheduled. Practices for baseball, softball, track & field, girls soccer, boys golf, lacrosse, and girls tennis will now start on March 22. Competitions won't begin until March 26th at the earliest.
The change also impacts girls golf and boys tennis season in the UP.
The MHSAA says the decision was supported by nearly 3 quarters of member high schools. The delay should help schools juggle the availability of indoor athletic facilities which are used by Spring sports teams until the weather finally warms up.
