GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Spring high school sports in Michigan are suspended to align with Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s order to close schools for three weeks.

The Michigan High School Athletic Association had already suspended winter tournaments and left how to handle spring sports to school districts. On Friday, MHSAA suspended the rest of the activities.

“By suspending all sports activities for the next three weeks, we are taking an additional step to maintain safety and minimize risk first, and also keep a level playing field for our schools and teams during this time of uncertainty,” MHSAA executive director Mark Uyl said in a release.

Uyl said the organization to use the time to evaluate its options and will share updates with schools.
