HOLLAND, Mich. — The Holland Christian boys basketball team is off to a 2-0 start to the season after the Maroons erased a nine point fourth quarter deficit to beat South Christian last Friday.
"I think we are a really determined group this year," senior forward Ethan Alderink said. "Last year we had a really heartbreaking loss in the districts to Unity so I think this year we are just extremely motivated and we are a very tight knit group this year so we just have a lot of fun with each other and we are really close."
The road win last Friday taught the team a lot about what it has this season.
"We have shown a lot of growth from our younger players," third year head coach David Kool said. "I think one of the things we were wondering about coming into the season was what kind of depth we would have as a team. We felt like we had three really good senior guards coming back and I think was going to be the strength of our team, but after the game Friday night at South Christian we developed faith in our bench and I think that was key for us in that game and going forward we are going to need that and I think that has been the biggest takeaway so far."
Holland Christian faces another big test Friday night against Grand Rapids Christian (3-0) at the Civic Center.
