BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — The Ferris State men's basketball team beat Lake Superior State, 84-67, Thursday night to clinch the GLIAC regular season championship outright.
"I'm just really happy for our team," Bulldogs head coach Andy Bronkema said. "They set out to do it and they did it. Winning the championships is never going to be good enough because there is always more to win but it's what happens along the way that makes things special, makes memories and produces character in these young men and us as coaches."
The title is Ferris State's third in the last four seasons, last year was the one that got away from the Bulldogs.
"Coach Bronks talks about it all the time in the locker room," junior Dorian Aluyi, who scored a game-high 21 points against LSSU, said. "Last weekend at Parkside he mentioned how they took the North from them and so we used it as motivation, we play hard every game and this is the result."
Ferris State will be the top-seed in next weeks GLIAC tournament, the Bulldogs will host Northern Michigan on Tuesday in the quarterfinal.
