West Michigan Whitecaps promoted to Advanced A affiliate of Detroit Tigers

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. — The Detroit Tigers announced Wednesday that the West Michigan Whitecaps will become the big-league club’s Advanced A affiliate starting next year.

The Whitecaps have spent 24 seasons as the Tigers’ Low A designee.

It comes as Major League Baseball restructures its Minor League Baseball player development system.

“We’re thrilled for our fanbase,” said Joe Chamberlin, CEO of the West Michigan Whitecaps. “It means West Michigan will see a higher level of baseball talent, which translates to the opportunity to see more Detroit Tigers prospects, along with Midwest rival prospects, and more fun for the fans.”
