The businesses that remain operational during stay-at-home and shelter-in-place mandates due to the coronavirus pandemic have been overwhelmingly busy. However, there’s a holiday coming up, and several retailers will shut down for Easter Sunday to give employees a well-deserved day to rest and spend time with their families.

While local retailers and smaller chains may vary by location, several national and regional chains will close up shop at all locations on Easter, which is Sunday, April 12. Following is a list of essential stores that will be closed.

  • Aldi
  • BI-LO
  • Costco
  • H-E-B
  • Publix
  • Sam’s Club
  • Target
  • Trader Joe’s

Stores Remaining Open for Easter Sunday

If you find yourself in dire need of a few necessities — or perhaps are yourself working for an essential business and need to re-stock your kitchen while you are off for the holiday — some major grocery and specialty retail chains will remain open.

This is a list of open stores:

  • Albertsons
  • BJ’s
  • CVS
  • Duane Reade
  • Giant
  • Kmart
  • Kroger
  • Rite-Aid
  • Safeway
  • ShopRite
  • Walgreens
  • Walmart
  • Whole Foods

It is important to note that store hours on Easter can vary by location. Some chains could even opt to close certain stores, while others remain open. Before venturing out, give the retailer a quick call to confirm that they will be operating on the holiday. You’ll also want to know when they will open and close on Easter Sunday.

The reopenings of many retailers considered non-essential, including department stores and specialty retailers like Apple, Sephora, Barnes & Noble, Hobby Lobby, HomeGoods and others, are still up in the air. While many of these stores initially said that they would open again in early April, most have announced that they will extend their closings based on the current situation and will not reopenbefore the Easter holiday arrives.

Of course, you should stay home whenever possible during the coronavirus pandemic. If you must venture out, be sure to practice social distancing and take precautions to avoid infection, such as wearing a mask and gloves, using hand sanitizer and washing your hands as soon as you get home.
