Check your vegetable bin: A large scale recall on 100-plus pre-packaged vegetable products sold in the U.S. and Canada under brand names like Del Monte, O Organics and Signature Farms was recently announced.

Mann Packing Co., which distributed the vegetable products in question, is recalling them because of a notification from the Food and Drug Administration and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency about potential listeria contamination. No illnesses have been reported so far due to the recalled products.

The recalled items are labeled as “Best If Enjoyed By” Oct. 11-Nov. 16, 2019. The image below shows where one of the expiration dates can be found at the bottom left of the packaging on this Signature Farms Nourish Bowls item.

You can see photos of all the U.S. products in question by scrolling down this list. Canadian items can be found here. The recall includes items such as vegetable medleys, veggie platters, ready-to-eat salads and slaw mixes.

Many of the vegetables were sold under the Mann’s, Mann’s Organic, Mann’s Snacking Favorite and Mann’s Family Favorites brands. But some vegetable products were sold under the Del Monte, HEB and HEB Organic, Hungryroot, Kroger Organic, Marketside, Marketside Organic, O Organics, Signature Farms, Sysco, Trader Joe’s and Western Family labels.

If you have these items in your kitchen, you are urged to throw them away immediately.

Listeria infects about 1,600 people a year; 260 of those die. Symptoms vary based on the person and part of the body affected, but include fever, diarrhea, headache, muscle aches, stiff neck, confusion, convulsions and loss of balance.

Listeria is more likely to sicken young children, the elderly and those who are immunocompromised. Pregnant women are cautioned to be especially careful of avoiding items that might have listeria contamination such as raw cheeses, uncooked meats and fishes because listeria can cause serious health issues for both mother and unborn child.

You can lessen your chances of being exposed to listeria on fruits and vegetables by thoroughly washing them. Prepackaged vegetables and fruits can sometimes have a higher chance of listeria or other bacterial contamination because of additional handling and processing of the food.

The Mann brand is “one of the largest suppliers of western vegetables, BROCCOLINI baby broccoli and sugar snap peas in North America,” according to the company.

If you have questions about the recall, you can reach Mann Packing Co, Inc. at 844-927-0707 or email consumers@mannpacking.com.
