GRAND RAPIDS - At this point, everyone is wondering if the weather will be OK for trick-or-treaters this year. Let's face it, it's been a tough year for everybody, not the least of which has affected kids everywhere with school and staying at home. They need a break...a good day...decent weather to pick up some treat-or-treat candy on Saturday. Luckily, it appears as if high pressure will build into the Great Lakes and deliver dry conditions (for a change) and temperatures in the low/mid 50s. Still a little cool and temperatures slightly below normal, but not bad. That said, it will be a little breezy too. See below.
If it seems like the last several Halloweens have been lousy weather, indeed that has been the case. Last year in 2019, we had a high of only 41 with .68" of rain and .10" of snow. Raw and miserable for kids. In 2018, things were a bit warmer at 57, but we had .33" rain too. In 2017, we had only 41 degrees with almost a half inch of snow. 2016 brought about a high temperature of 54 and dry conditions. Back in 2015, we had a high of 52 degrees, but it was wet with .66" of rain.
Take a look at the Halloween Forecast this year (2020) for Saturday. It doesn't look bad, although warmer would be nice. That said, dry conditions make it more pleasant too. See the break-out below.
Perhaps this Halloween will be "extra ghoulish". Why? We have a rare "blue moon" occurring this month, which actually falls on Saturday...Halloween day! That means a second full moon this month (hence the term once in a blue moon). The full moon in the month of October is known as the Hunter's Moon.
