WASHINGTON — Late Tuesday night, the U.S. House passed the Senate’s package of bills putting an end to the fiscal cliff and making the “Bush Era” tax cuts permanent.

The measure moved President Obama’s desk.

It’s been looming over the country for weeks now, and would have resulted in a tax increase across the board for Americans.

FOX 17 spoke with Rep. Justin Amash, R-Cascade Township, who said that while he voted against the plan, he expected his colleagues in the House to pass the measure as they did.

It began at 2:00 a.m. Tuesday, the Democrat-controlled Senate passed a package of bills that puts off any spending cuts and keeps the current tax structure in place for individuals earning less than $400,000 and families earning less $450,000.

The House took a long time looking over the bills. Most of the hesitation had to do with some House Republicans considering a $300 billion spending cut amendment.

Amash told us he agrees with the tax cuts in the package of bills, but in his mind the package didn’t do enough to address the problem of increasing debt.
