DETROIT, Mich. -A man in the Motor City recently reeled in a one-of-a-kind catch.
While fishing on Lake Saint Clair last Friday, he caught a large goldfish.
“Basically, I was doing what I always do, trying to catch perch and I thought I had a big perch on. Um…definitely not a perch,” said Mike Martin, “I’ve been fishing this lake for 20 years, first one I’ve ever caught. I called my dad the second it came out of the hole. I didn’t know what to do with it…asked him what I should do with it. I’ve never caught a goldfish. What do you do with a goldfish?”
Martin believes the 3 pound, 15- inch fish was originally someone’s pet before being turned loose in the lake.
He’s now planning to mount the catch on his wall.

I ate 3 lbs of goldfish in college. ALL LIVE. 1 at a time. I'm just thinking, "Where is the tartar sauce?"

He needs to make sure that it isn't an invasive species. There are golden carp at Cedar Point that look a bit different than that. Please check with the DNR before you do anything with it!!!!

James, it is an ivvasive species, that's why it did not go back into the lake. I think it's pretty safe that it will not cause anymore environmental problems in Lake St. Clair seeing it's been in his freezer for a few days now.

I would inform the DNR about this abnormal catch.
