Man Arrested In Fatal Crash

MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich.- A man has been arrested in fatal hit and run crash that happened last year.

Ryan Bennett, 24, was arraigned Friday on operating while intoxicated causing death and reckless driving causing death charges. The hit and run happened on West Edgerton Street in Howard City on July 20, 2012. Scott Gregory, 25, was killed in the crash.

Police said Bennett’s father called 911 to report the crime. When officers arrived at the Bennett’s home, they found Ryan Bennett intoxicated and arrested him for drunk driving.

Investigators said they believe Bennett was heading home when he struck and killed Gregory. They said evidence recovered from Bennett’s vehicle was analyzed by the Michigan State Police crime lab and connected Bennett’s vehicle to the crash.

Leaders said it took several months to charge Bennett because the crime lab was backed up with cases.

Bennett is out on bond.
