Vets Home Replaces Union Workers With Non-Union

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The Grand Rapids Home for Veterans will be replacing union workers for non-union workers.

Mike Burri, a volunteer at the home for veterans, told FOX 17 News that nearly 144 union workers received pink slips Tuesday.

The change comes from the company’s privatization plan that was put in place in 2011.

The workers will be laid off sometime in early March.

The veterans deserve the most competent individuals. not whether they are union or not. Being a union member or not does not guarantee competence.

The people need work too, not to be laid off because they are union. If they are being laid off it's not because of poor workmanship. Ridiculous!!!

It has NOTHING to do with right to work! Read the article, it comes from PRIVATIZATION passed in 2011. Regardless our Veterans are the ones who pay the ultimate price and it makes me ill to think that the Veterans who sacrificed so much to protect our freedom, are getting the shaft!

Since when does union=quality? I worked in civil service (unions) for over 20yrs & the workers over time start to think the job is lucky to have them, not the other way around. Just try to fire an incompetent union employee. Do you want more incompetents working with our veterans than we already have?

It doesn't matter weather it was right to work or a bill pass. It still involves the works of the Governor. It will not save any money but support the large profits and poor service of a private company.
