GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Planned Parenthood will be giving out more than 6,000 “condom pops” during the month of February.
The distribution is all part of Planned Parenthood of West and Northern Michigan’s Valentine-Themed Awareness Campaign.
“You could give your valentine chocolate or flowers,” Said Kym Duursma, an education specialist with PPWNM. “But the foundation of a loving and healthy relationship is communication.”
The condom pops will consist of two condoms, a lollipop, information about safe sex and links to more information.
The items will be handed out at PPWNM health centers, free of charge. PPWMN will also pass out the condom pops at select community venues, including Grand Rapids Community College on Feb. 12.
Nearly 19 million sexually transmitted infections and more than 3 million unplanned pregnancies occur each year, according to PPWNM.
“Education and communication equip people to make responsible decisions about their health,” Duursma said.
