HUDSONVILLE, Mich.,– 15-year-old Brittany Greene picked up the skill of crocheting from her grandmother a few years ago. Now, she’s using the hobby to help others.

“I wanted to start donating hats because I’m one of those people that like to help people,” Greene told FOX 17 News. “It’s really nice to help others, even if it’s something really small.”

Greene decided to crochet hats to donate to newborns and premature babies at area hospitals. With some help from her aunt, grandmother and a teacher at school, the caps quickly started to pile up.

This week, Greene dropped off her first donation of 100 hats to Zeeland Hospital. The teen plans to donate the next 100 hats to Metro Hospital.

“Making these hats for all these newborns is something that she loves to do,” said Ben Greene, Brittany’s dad. “I’m proud of her. She’s a great girl and I love what she’s doing for the community.”
