WYOMING, Mich. — An active investigation is underway along westbound I-196 near Indian Mounds Drive in Wyoming this evening.

Officers from the Grand Rapids, Grandville and Wyoming Police Departments were called to the scene to assess the situation just before 9:00 p.m.

The investigation led to the closure of a lane of Westbound I-196 in that area, which is right by the Grand River.

According to witnesses at the scene, at least 2 kayakers called 911 after seeing what they believed to be a body in the Grand River.

Just before 11:00 p.m., search and rescue crews confirmed a body was located in the Grand River and a medical examiner was called to the scene to assist in the investigation.

Authorities at the scene tell FOX17 they’ll be working to identify the person that was found throughout the overnight hours.

The area this investigation is taking place is close to wherea woman was reported missing over the weekend.  Again, the person that was found has not been identified at this time.
