State of Emergency in Wyoming

Mayor Jack A. Poll declares State of Emergency in Wyoming, MI

 

WYOMING, Mich., April 18, 2012 – At 10:15 a.m. today, April 18, Mayor Jack Poll declared a state of emergency in the city of Wyoming due to flooding issues.

 

If residents have an urgent emergency or medical issue, they should call 911.

 

For water-related non-emergency assistance or evacuation, a 24-hour hotline can be reached by calling (616) 530-7331. This hotline will only provide response to water-related issues.

 

The Wyoming Fire, Police and Public Works departments have called in all available personnel. A command post has been set up at the Wyoming Police Department.

 

Mandatory evacuations effecting approximately two dozen homes are taking place on Crippen Avenue and Averill Avenue south of 54th street as well as on the south side of CreeksideEstatesParks and Lodge, located on Clyde Park Avenue. Additional mandatory and non-mandatory evacuations may take place as weather conditions continue to develop.

 

A Red Cross emergency shelter is available at the KentwoodCommunity Center, 355 28th St. SE.

 

The city has 800 free sand bags and sand available for residents to pick up at the Public Works Department Facility at 2660 Burlingame Ave.

 

Please contact Consumers Energy at 1(800) 477-5050 regarding any electrical outages or downed power lines throughout the City.  Contact DTE at 1(800) 947-5000 for any emergency gas related issues.

 

The city is requesting that residents:

  • When driving, please slow down
  • Do not drive through standing water
  • Stay away from downed power lines
  • If you have an issue with flooding, do not enter the water, call for emergency support
