Commentary: Bill Maher used the word last week during a stand-up act referring to Sarah Palin’s son who has Down Syndrome. He was trying to mock Sarah Palin but instead he hurt hundreds of children and adults who through no fault of their own are called that name in ridicule.

Very well said Mr. Mendte, my daughter has Down syndrome, and through hard work, prayer and maybe some good genes she does not fall into the category of MR (mental retardation), Her IQ is at normal level. I fight the battles and stigmas every day to tell society our kids with disabilities never chose this life, but have just as much of a right to be here as anyone else. In fact, our kids have to work harder than everyone else to learn and accomplish the things that come easy to everyone else. I appreciate you taking a stand.
