KEENE TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The historic Whites Bridge north of Richmond Road over the Flat River in Keene Township burned down Sunday morning.

Police initially believed that arson was the cause of the fire, but now say they are exploring a different cause.

The fire happened around 5 a.m., according to the Ionia County Sheriff’s Department. When deputies arrived, the bridge had already fallen into the river.

Deputies are currently figuring out how to re-route everyone.  They also advise people to avoid the area if possible as they investigate the incident.
