DeShawn Threats was officially charged with felony murder in the death of his daughter, Zaeyana Driggs – Threats in Kent County Court Friday.
He was also charged with being an habitual offender.
The young father talked to FOX 17 in an exclusive interview following the arraignment.
“If I could talk to her, tell her Daddy love her,” said DeShawn Threats.
The 21-year-old said that is what he would like to tell his 2-year-old daughter, Zaeyana, who he described as an adventurous, happy toddler.
DeShawn said he and her mom, Darci Driggs, woke up together Wednesday at their home on 4th Street NW and realized something was very wrong.
“I picked her up and she was blue,” said DeShawn. “Her mother tried to revive her and it wasn`t working and she called the hospital. She called 911.”
He said he’s devastated over her death and the accusations.
“She didn`t even get a chance. Then on top of that, to have her dad accused, that is kind of messed up,” said DeShawn.
DeShawn said Darci is a hard worker, a good mom, and dedicated to the kids.
They shared another son, DeShawn Jr., who was taken away from Darci in a neglect hearing Thursday.
“I love her and I hope everything is not getting her down too bad,” said DeShawn. “She keeps still being a strong woman, and keeps taking care of our kids, and keep, if they try to take our son, keep fighting to get him back.”
DeShawn feels he’s been targeted because of his past history.
That history included domestic disputes, but he says they were petty arguments and that history did not make him a bad father.
He said the disagreements he had with Darci did not extend to their children.
DeShawn said he wasn’t able to speak with family yet from jail, but had a message for his family.
“Don`t nobody give up on me. Everybody keep trying to help out,” said DeShawn. “Honestly, just I hope they get down to the bottom of this with quickness and I will be able to hopefully, see my daughter`s funeral or at least come home to see her grave stone at least.”
He said if he could, he would like to send Zaeyana a message.
“I love her, I wish I could talk to her, and if I had a chance, I would trade my life for hers,” said DeShawn.
