Laser Problems At The Gerald R. Ford Airport

Ford Airport Plans ExpansionGRAND RAPIDS, Mich- Airport police and the Kentwood Police department confirm that there have been cases of lasers pointed at the cockpits of planes landing and taking off from Gerald R. Ford International Airport.

The incidents have taken place over the last couple of weeks and reflect a national problem.

In 2012 there were 3,482 reported laser incidents at U.S. airports. That number is down slightly from 2011 but more than double from 2009.

The penalty if convicted is a 250 thousand dollar fine and 20 years in prison.

A quick check on YouTube shows videos of what pilots experience inside the cockpits when lasers are pointed at aircraft.

If you have any information about the recent cases you are asked to call the Kentwood Police Department.

oh yeah…let me rat out my cousin/best friend/self…IDIOTS!! for real, do you honestly think anyone would turn themselves or anyone else in with those kind of penalties involved??? how stupid do you think we are?

You think the penalties are bad now… wait until someone blinds a pilot and causes a fully loaded plane to crash killing a bunch of people. So to answer your question, VERY stupid to not fess up.

i would never do such a thing myself…i believe those laser things are meant for two purposes only, for lectures and for tormenting cats. but if the authorities can't figure out who is doing it then why draw attention to ones' self or loved one?

Sounds like you know who is doing this. If you let it continue you are no better than the person doing it.

Anyone else find it interesting that "Laser's Resource" is right at the west end of the major runway?
