BYRON TOWNSHIP, Mich.– It started as every parents nightmare, but ended as happy as it could when a 12 year-old autistic boy was reunited with his family.
Quenton Moomey was surrounded by neighbors and family, Wednesday morning, after he wandered away from home around 11 p.m. Tuesday. Kent County Sheriff’s deputies and volunteers organized a search overnight, combing a two mile radius around 84th Street and Byron Center Avenue.
Around 7:30 Wednesday morning, family and searchers got the call they’d been waiting for. A farmer spotted Quenton on his property, located on 92nd Street SE. Quenton told his mother he’d been out all night, even during the rain storm, and was ready to come back home.
“He said he was sleep walking, which means ‘you were supposed to be sleeping, I was walking.” Said Quenton’s mother, Julie Moomey. “He said thank you for saving me. At least he grasps that much. He was lost and now he’s home.”
Quenton’s mother said she will be looking into getting ID bracelets for her son.
