GRAND HAVEN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A 25-year-old Holland man died in a construction accident Thursday afternoon on U.S. 31.

At 3:21 p.m. Thursday, the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a construction accident with injuries in the southbound lanes of U.S. 31 at Warner Street in Grand Haven Township. Upon arriving at the scene, emergency workers found Robert Greving, 25, of Holland suffering from serious injuries.

He was transported to North Ottawa Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Greving was an employee of Dan Hoe Excavating in Holland and was one of several employees working in a construction zone in the southbound lanes of U.S. 31 at Warner Street. One southbound lane is closed due to the construction of Michigan turns in the area.

Greving was working off the roadway. A co-worker operating a compact track loader tractor had placed the tractor in reverse after leveling some packed gravel for the shoulder and backed up the tractor. It’s unknown how Greving ended up behind the tractor, but he was hit by the tractor and suffered serious injuries.

After being transported to the hospital, Greving was pronounced dead from injuries getting hit by the tractor.

The incident is under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office and OSHA.

That's how my Dad died Sept 10, 2004. When I saw the 10 pm news I thought I feel for the Family! I know what they are going to go through! It'll be 9 yrs! It all comes back to you! The only one thing that you think of is that Dad didn't have to suffer. But the feeling never goes away of that day driving to the hospital and hearing on the radio of an accident….. And you know….. My heart goes to the Family during your terrible lost…..

  • why?

Terrible thing that has happened. Robby was a great guy always had a smile on his face, never in a bad mood. He was a great person to be around and work with. He will be missed so much. My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family for such a terrible lost.
