Police: Road Rage Leads to Ionia Shootout, 2 Deaths

IONIA, Mich. — A road rage incident in Ionia led to a shootout that killed two people Wednesday, according to Ionia Public Safety.

A 43-year-old Ionia man and another 56-year-old man died from their injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

Both victims had concealed weapons permits, said police.

The shootout happened around 6:53 p.m. at the Wonder Wand Car Wash at the corner of Nash and Steele near M-66 in Ionia. One man was driving a gold Ford Taurus, the other driving a PT cruiser. At the scene, the back window of the PT Cruiser was shot out.

One witness passing the scene around 7 a.m. said he saw two people on the ground. After the men were taken to the hospital, a handgun could still be seen inside the crime scene perimeter as police investigated. Others said they heard four shots fired.

A man ran from a nearby laundromat and applied CPR to one of the victims, Allen Daggett told FOX 17.

Much better. Makes much more sense now. Tragic tho. If it was truly random, it is scary because I don't want to live in the wild west.

    Not enough info
Where both dead men shooting at each other ?
"shootout" implies both parties were armed-
Or were both victims killed by one shooter ?
Were either or both licensed to carry a weapon?

Not exactly, one person murdered, one killed defending himself.
