State Suspends Liquor License For The Elks Charity Lodge

Elks lodge shooting investigation police newserMUSKEGON,Mich. — According to the Muskegon City Manager On September 24th a meeting was held with the Michigan Liquor Control Commission in Lansing, Michigan.  LCC Commissioners considered the matter of license status for the Charity Lodge # 1397 I.B.P.O.E of W. (Elks) located at 149 Ottawa St. in the City of Muskegon.

The City of Muskegon & Muskegon Police Department petitioned the LCC Commission to issue an emergency suspension order and serve such order on the establishment known at the Elk’s Lodge of Muskegon.

City Officials reported to the LCC Commission that a shooting occurred on/about September 22nd in the early morning hours at that establishment, in which three 3 persons were killed and several others injured. That on June of 2013 another shooting occurred. The Police Department has received more than twenty-one 21 calls for service concerning that location within the last 9 months. That the establishment has been operating outside the guidelines of a Club License by serving non-members including but not limited to other numerous noted administrative violations.

At the conclusion of the hearing the LCC ordered; (1) Sunday Sales Permit is SUSPENDED, (2)  Club License & Sunday Sales will remain SUSPENDED, until a Post-Suspension is conducted (3) The Licensee MUST comply with the confiscation of the Club License (4) Licensee MUST comply with the impoundment of all alcoholic beverage inventory on site until further notice.
