GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — A cafeteria worker at Campus Elementary School has been fired after allegedly hiring two students to beat up a 9-year-old in the fourth grade.
The female cafeteria worker, who has not yet been identified, is said to have paid a dollar to two fourth-grade students and told them to beat up the student, according to John Helmholdt, Grand Rapids Public Schools spokesman.
That the 9-year-old apparently made a remark to the cafeteria worker that she didn’t like, which prompted the incident, Helmholdt says.
The boy did not suffer any major injuries but was reportedly a little roughed up.
The fired employee, who was contracted out under West Michigan Janitorial Service, had a clean criminal record.
Grand Rapids police are also looking into the incident, and formal charges may follow.
