Shots Fired in Woodland Mall Parking Lot, Suspects Sought

KENTWOOD, Mich. — Police are investigating a shooting that happened around 6:45 p.m. Monday in a parking lot outside J.C. Penney at Woodland Mall.

Several suspects are sought in connection with that shooting. No injuries have been reported.

Witnesses told police they saw the suspects’ vehicle drive away from the scene, but no clear description was provided.

Shoppers like Martha Orellana were surprised to leave the mall and see police cars in the parking lot.

“Just a few security guards going through trash, and we were kind of confused, and we walked out and saw the cop cars, and so, definitely nerve-wracking,” she said.

Diamond Jachim said it makes her think twice about her safety while holiday shopping.

“It’s definitely scary to think that it is just right outside,” she said. “What if we would have been walking out when this happened?”

Police also found a bullet hole at the Gold and Silver Exchange, a store in the mall complex but far from the first shooting scene.

Detectives are reviewing surveillance cameras to see if that will lead them to the shooters.  Kentwood police are asking anyone with any information about this incident to call them 616-698-6580.

Last time I was at Woodland I felt like I was on a different planet.
The most noticeable offence was the constant crotch grabbing and the loud use of the work "cawk".

Every time a thug uses his stolen gun its used as an excuse to attack and erode MY rights as a LAWFUL gun owner.
The anti-gun lobby uses these events as cannon fodder to push their anti-freedom agenda.
Maybe they should ban thug criminals from stealing guns and illegally shooting people instead of infringing on my rights?
Oh wait….that IS illegal- see how well so called gun control works?

As an employee at Woodland Mall who worked that night I'm personally outraged. I had no idea this was happening right outside my store until I checked my phone while WALKING TO MY CAR IN THE PARKING LOT in the dark by myself at 9pm. Mall security didn't inform our store that this was happening. I think that was a very poor decision to risk the shoppers and employees safety just to coninute business. We were dead slow in our store and had no idea why.
