GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Charges were authorized Thursday for the rape of a 77-year-old Grand Rapids woman.
Shane Chambers, 30, has been in custody since Sept. 20 for the crime. He allegedly brutally beat and then raped the woman Sept. 19 in her Worden Street home.
The woman told police that she turned down Chambers when he offered to help her carry groceries into her home the night of Sept. 18. The alleged attack happened the following morning.
Chambers was arrested after he was caught with the woman’s credit card. He’s also being charged with resisting arrest, according to police.
