Snowfall Above Average in West Michigan

WEST MICHIGAN — The snow season in West Michigan started off slowly, but it has really turned around in the past couple of weeks.In fact, some areas now have above normal snowfall for the season so far.

In Grand Rapids, the total as of Thursday evening is 16.3 inches, and this is 1.8 inches above normal.Last year at this point, we had just 1.8 inches.

Meanwhile, Muskegon also has totals that are above normal. Their total so far of 19.1 inches is 3.2 inches above normal.

Across the rest of Michigan, however, there are still several locations with below normal snowfall:

  • Lansing:  3.3″,  4.8″ below normal
  • Alpena:  8.5″,  6.6″ below normal
  • Marquette:  29.4″,  17.3″ below normal
  • Detroit:  2.5″,  2.0″ below normal
  • Sault St. Marie:  33.2″,  4.3″ above normal
