NEAR NILES, Mich. — Some 300 passengers on an Amtrak train had to wait more than nine hours before they could reach their destination, after the train they were on broke down.
According to passenger Liane Rosa, the 353 Wolverine Amtrak train left Kalamazoo for Chicago at around 3:00 p.m. on Sunday. Rosa says the train broke down outside of Niles, and that passengers were told another train would be by to help get them to their destination.
Eventually, that second train was able to come and pull the disable Amtrak to Chicago. Rosa says they arrived at around 1:30 a.m. The time officially listed by an Amtrak alert was 1:23, roughly 9 hours and 23 minutes late. This particular route, among many others, has been cancelled as a result of the weather.
Rosa and other passengers said the staff members were very honest and tried to provide as much information as possible during the inconvenient circumstances.
