COVERT, Mich- The Palisades Nuclear Power Plant went offline as of Sunday morning at 11 a.m. to begin its twenty-third refueling and maintenance outage.
According to plant spokeswoman Lindsay Rose, workers at the plant will replace 64 fuel assemblies in the reactor and perform routine maintenance and tests on plant equipment.
The work will be done by the plant’s 600 full-time employees and other employees from Entergy Corp. power plants.
According to Entergy Corp. the influx of more than 1,000 outside workers will provide a boost to the local economy in Covert.
It is unknown when Palisades will go back online.
