Photos: Light Pillars Captured on Camera

light pillar1WEST MICHIGAN — In Tuesday’s early morning hours, many people noticed a phenomenon known as ‘light pillars’ throughout West Michigan.  Below are some of the photographs they shared.

The pillars of light are the result of ice crystals in the air, which produce the effect of slim columns that seem to beam into the atmosphere.

I saw those beams late Saturday night but…this morning (Tuesday) I saw it over the sunrise! I couldn't get a direct shot of it though so I didn't take a picture. But if someone sees it tomorrow morning, get a picture! It was as wide as the sunrise and red, shooting up like a giant flame burning in the sky. It was amazing.
