Police Investigate ‘Threat’ At West Ottawa High School

West Ottawa High School – Courtesy Christman CoPARK TOWNSHIP, Mich. — Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputies were sent to West Ottawa High School Thursday morning to look into what the county dispatch center would only refer to as a “threat.”

No other details were available.

A post on FOX 17’s Facebook page said the school had notified parents and said officials were working with deputies.

    Dear Parents,
    We will be continuing our school day soon and students will be back in class. Be assured, all student are very safe and dealing with the interruption of our day appropriately. Here is a summary of the situation today.
    The Ottawa County Sheriff?s Office conducted an investigation at the West Ottawa High School in conjunction with the West Ottawa Public School Administration. At Approximately 7:41am todays date the Ottawa County Central Dispatch received information regarding a possible explosive device at the South Building of the West Ottawa High School. This information was immediately transmitted to the Sheriff?s Office School Resource Deputies that work within the West Ottawa Public Schools. The South Building was evacuated and those students were moved to other structures within the High School Complex. The school remains on lock down at this hour while the Sheriff?s Office and School investigate the situation. At no time were there any injuries or harm to any students or staff. This was a precautionary procedure only.

    Dear Parents,
    We are pleased to report that all students and staff are safe and remained calm and composed as we took the precautionary measure of evacuating the south building of West Ottawa High School. Several law enforcement professionals from Ottawa County Sheriff?s Department did a full sweep of the South building and found no indicators of any harmful devices. At no time was any student in danger. Students will resume class shortly after lunch.
    A special thanks goes out to our students and staff at the high school for handling this situation with maturity and professionalism. We're also grateful for the cooperative relationship we have with Ottawa County Law enforcement for their commitment to the safety of our students.
