NUNICA, Mich (February 14, 2014) – Deputies have identified a couple that was killed in a two vehicle crash in Crockery Township on Friday.
Robert George Schmidt, 88, of Coopersville and his wife Erika Victoria Schmidt, 87, were both pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say both of them were wearing their seat belts.
Investigators say the couple’s 2007 Honda CRV lost control along Apple Avenue near State Road just before 1:00 p.m., crossing the center line and into the path of a pickup truck hauling a trailer.
The driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department.
