FORT BRAGG (Feb. 22, 2014)- Fox 17 has learned a Greenville High School Graduate is one of the soldiers seriously injured in a training accident at Fort Bragg in North Carolina.

The accident killed a paratrooper and seriously injured two others.

Family tells us Sgt. Cory Muzzy’s right leg was amputated, along with his left toe.  His wife, Michelle Muzzy says he also suffered a fractured forearm, brain bleeding and blindness in both eyes.

“They just said that it was a training accident and that something exploded,” Michelle said.

She said she didn’t realize the extent of the 25-year-old father’s injuries until arriving at the hospital.

Sgt. Muzzy’s mom Cindy Muzzy says they moved to Greenville when he was just 10-months-old.  He graduated from Greenville High School before moving to New Mexico in 2005 where he joined the military.

“He`s coherent, he understands, it don`t look like he’s going to have any brain damage,” Cindy said.  “He comprehends everything so that`s excellent.”

Cindy says Sgt. Muzzy served two tours overseas, one in Iraq and one in Afghanistan.

Michelle says Sgt. Muzzy is the type of guy who would give you the shirt off his back.

“I’m just happy he’s alive.” She said. “He’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

The Muzzy family says they’re taking an optimistic approach, as hard as it is to comprehend the challenges ahead.

An online fund has been set up to help the Muzzy family with expenses
