MUSKEGON, Mich., (March 18, 2014) After a three-year battle, little Gavin Sima has been sent home on hospice care to live out his final weeks with his family. The 6-year-old has been fighting Lymphoma, Myelodysplastic Syndrome & Leukemia.

Although the days have been difficult for the Sima family, they have been showered with an outpouring of community support. An online fundraiser earlier this month managed to raise more than $10,000 thousand dollars in a matter of days.

Tuesday night, a prayer/candlelight vigil brought more than 100 people to the Sima home in Muskegon to show their love and support for Gavin. Attendees were asked to wear bright yellow in support of the fight against childhood cancer.  Shirts were also sold at the event, raising more than $1,000 thousand dollars.

A Facebook page called “Benefit for Gavin Sima” has also been set up to chronicle the family’s journey. To view it, click here.

T-shirts are also being sold to help the family with expenses. To learn more click here.

(Please note: Story updated as of 10:30pm March 18th to reflect Gavin’s proper age of 6. He was diagnosed at age 4. We apologize for the error.)
