DES MOINES, Iowa – (FOX News Channel) – A Republican candidate for Senate says she knows how to cut pork in Washington — because she grew up castrating pigs on her farm in Iowa.

It’s time, she says, to make lawmakers “squeal.”

In one of the more unique ads of the 2014 election cycle so far, self-proclaimed “mother, soldier and conservative” Joni Ernst credits her farm upbringing with teaching her how to live within her means.

“I grew up castrating hogs on an Iowa farm, so when I come to Washington, I’ll know how to cut pork,” Ernst says in the ad, later adding, “Washington is full of big spenders. Let’s make ’em squeal.”

The ad is fittingly farm-themed, featuring Ernst in a vest and flannel shirt and shots of squealing pigs in pens.

Ernst, currently an Iowa state senator, will face a crowded Republican primary field in the race to replace retiring Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin. She is one of five GOP candidates battling to face off against Rep. Bruce Braley, who is running unopposed on the Democratic side.
