DETROIT, Mich. (April 4, 2014) — When Miguel Cabrera signed his historic eight-year, $248 million extension before the regular season started, it was with the thought that the 30-year-old slugger would reach many milestones over the next several seasons in Detroit.

Check one off the list.

Cabrera collected his 2000th career hit in pure Miggy fashion – a two-run home run – to top off a 4-for-5, 3 RBI day, helping the Tigers to a 10-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles.

Detroit (3-0) exploded for seven runs after a 34-minute rain delay in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Rajai Davis and Torii Hunter both got their first hits of the season via back-to-back long balls in the fourth. Davis’s first hit as a Tiger was a three-run blast, while Hunter followed up with a solo shot.

Anibal Sanchez, the reigning American League E.R.A. king, overcame a two-run, two-hit first inning to throw three no-hit innings to finish the day. He did not return after the rain delay. Drew Smyly came on in relief for the win.

Rick Porcello will get his first start of 2014 Saturday when Detroit and Baltimore take the field for the second of their three games this weekend at Comerica. First pitch is set for 1:08 p.m.
