KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. (April 5, 2014)- The Kalamazoo County Dive Team said Asylum Lake is not safe for divers to search for a missing man because of the rain and shifting ice, that’s according to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety.
The 56-year-old Kalamazoo missing man, Takashi Sugimori, was last seen the morning of Wednesday, April 2, at their home. FOX 17 has been told his wife called police after he didn’t return home from going to Asylum Lake to cross-country ski, which he did often. Investigators said Sugimori may have fallen in the lake.
The missing man’s vehicle was found in the parking area of Asylum Lake near Parkview Drive.
Police say the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office, Western Michigan Police Department and the Michigan State Police searched the area on foot. Then a Michigan State Police helicopter search by air, while the Michigan State Police Dive Team searched the lake using underwater sonar tools.
Police say there is still no sign of Sugimori and they do not suspect foul play.
