Milwaukee-area marsh fire

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Firefighters across West Michigan were busy Friday putting out brush fires in some areas as the dry April weather has increased the fire threat.

On Friday afternoon, dispatchers for several counties could be heard over the police scanners sending crews to fires across the area.

Firefighters from several departments were called to 880 Alden Nash Ave., Alto, to put out a

field fire.  Earlier in the day, there was a brush fire off 72nd Street in the Byron Center area.  The website MesoWest shows parts of West Michigan in a ‘very high’ risk for fire danger.

Across Lake Michigan, a large field fire broke out in the Milwaukee area.  Aerial pictures showed a long line of flames cutting through a marsh.

The following photo gallery shows pictures from the fire Friday afternoon in Alto.
