GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (April 11, 2014) — Heavy rain is possible this weekend in parts of West Michigan, and this has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood watch.

The counties included in the watch are Oceana, Muskegon, Mecosta, Montcalm, Ottawa, Newaygo, Allegan, Kent, and Ionia. It goes into effect Saturday evening and continues until Monday.

However, as you can see from this forecast from our in-house computer model, Future Track, the band of the heaviest rain has shifted a little to the north, mainly along and north of U.S. 10.  If this trend verifies, areas south of a Muskegon-Grand Rapids-Ionia line would be spared the heaviest rains and as a result the flooding potential.

As of Friday evening, in addition to the flood watch, there are a few advisories in effect for area rivers. To see the latest from the National Weather Service, click HERE.

We will have updates on the heavy rainfall potential all weekend on FOX 17 News.
