MUSKEGON TOWNSHIP, Mich. ( April 12, 2014) — A family in Muskegon Township is counting their blessings after a large tree in their front yard collapsed on their vehicle while attempting to pull out of their driveway.

Ollie Spier, 69, said that she was on her way to a nearby restaurant with her daughter Brenda and her husband, when suddenly the storm hit.

“The wind started up. The branches started blowing everywhere and then the tree just fell and trapped us in the van,” said Spier.

While pulling out of their driveway, a tree in front of them first fell to the ground. That’s when Ollie’s daughter Brenda put the van in reverse. While backing up, another tree fell on top of the vehicle.

“It was a loud noise. The van kind of caved down and the glass went flying everywhere,” said Spier.

The family said that their neighbors from across the street came to their rescue.

“There were branches on both sides, so our neighbor across the street came with five guys. They got the back door open and pulled us out from the back door,” said Spier.

The family said that despite the damage, they are just thankful to be unharmed.

“I am very blessed, very very blessed. I have a great savior,” said Spier.
