GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (April 16, 2014) — A fourth-grader at Dickinson Elementary School was able to get around Grand Rapids Public Schools’ internet filtering software and look at porn in class.

According to GRPS spokesperson John Helmholdt, the incident happened April 3 when the 10-year-old student intentionally typed a search term into Google Images that filters would not detect.

Helmholdt said the student was suspended for several days.  He said the district notified the filtering software company to address the issue, but that it is impossible to close every single loophole.
