042714windWEST MICHIGAN — (Apr. 27, 2011) A large developing low pressure center in the Central Plains will interact with a high pressure center in the Great Lakes creating a large pressure gradient over West Michigan in the next few days. This pressure gradient will create gusty winds for the next few days.

Winds out of the east Sunday will pick up in the afternoon and become sustained between 20 and 25 miles per hour. Gusts will be possible up to 35 by late afternoon and early evening. Gusty east winds will make temperatures this afternoon feel even cooler than the below average 56 degree high.

This map of sea-level pressure shows the interaction between a Canadian High and a Central Plains Low. Notice the thinly spaced isobars in the Upper Midwest, these indicate very gusty winds moving into the region.

A few sprinkles will persist through early afternoon Sunday but heavier rain should hold off until early Monday morning. Rain will become heavy at times and continue throughout the day. Winds will also increase throughout the day.

The slow-moving low pressure center will slowly inch east during the first half of the work week bringing multiple chances for rain. A secondary low in Canada will drop south behind the exiting low and bring additional chances for more rain and cooler temperatures through next weekend.
