Abbotsford Scores Late to Force a Game 4 vs. Griffins Friday Night

griffinsGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Apr. 30, 2014) — Markus Granlund scored with 62 seconds left in the third period to break a 1-1 tie and give the Abbotsford Heat a franchise-saving win in Game 3 of their Calder Cup playoff series with the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Tomas Jurco, Riley Sheahan and Mitch Callahan returned to the Griffins lineup and worked together to score the game’s first goal. Sheahan set up Jurco for a power play goal with 2:33 left in the first period to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. Callahan was given credit for the second assist.

Abbotsford tied the game 5:52 into the third period when Corey Locke scored his first of the playoffs. Granlund scored with 1:02 left in the third on the power play to give Abbotsford the lead. Former Griffin Chad Billins assisted on the play along with goaltender Joni Ortio.

Game 4 of the series is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Friday night at Van Andel Arena. The Griffins lead the best-of-five series 2-1.
