LAS VEGAS, Nev. (April 30, 2014) — Boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has expressed an interest in purchasing the Los Angeles Clippers. He went so far as to say he and his team can afford the NBA team. (Jump to the 20:00 mark in the video above to hear his comments on the Clippers.)
The comments were made at a recent roundtable and were posted on Fight Hub TV’s YouTube channel. They come as the embattled Clippers deal with the lifetime ban against current owner Donald Sterling. He of course is coming under fire for recent comments that many say were racist.
“…do we want to buy the Clippers? Yes we do,” Mayweather says. “We’re very, very interested in buying the Clippers.”
Mayweather added, “Actually when I’m not boxing, I’m at the games all the time anyway, because I can walk to the games.”
The undefeated Mayweather is in Las Vegas this week preparing to defend his world championship against Marcos Maidana in a Showtime boxing event that’s been dubbed “The Moment.”
