mel-trotter-ministries-1122_20111229171415_320_240GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (May 6, 2014)– Supplies are running dangerously low, that’s according to Mel Trotter Ministries. They’re hoping the community can help lend a hand.

Despite taking in 40% more donations during the Brown Bad Food Drive last fall, Mel Trotter Ministries says it’s food pantry really took a hit during the harsh winter. The pantry serves as many as 150 households every week, allowing families to come in for goods twice a month. But, if donations don’t increase, Mel Trotter Ministries will have to start limiting families to only coming once a month.

“People who stick to a strict budget found themselves having to use their money to warm their house instead of food so we had higher numbers coming into our pantries this year; higher than ever before so our stocks are a little bit low,” said Cindy Longyne, Director of Marketing and Communications for Mel Trotter Ministries.

The food pantry is open Thursdays from 10 am to 2 pm. Donations can be dropped off at the downtown Commerce Street location, or any of the four thrift stores in Sparta, Belding, Jennison and Grand Rapids.
