HASTINGS, Mich. (June 5, 2014) — A West Michigan teacher has been arrested for indecent exposure, according to the Hastings Police Department.
A spokesperson for Hastings Area Schools says 55-year-old Stephen Merring was a physical education teacher at Central and Eastern elementary schools and is currently on paid administrative leave.
Merring was arrested on April 29 after a woman called police and said that as she went into her backyard, Merring exposed himself to her. During the investigation, an officer saw him beginning to unzip his pants. Merring ran back into his home when he realized police had been called.
The Barry County Prosecutor’s Office has authorized charges against the teacher.
