GR Police Chief Search Narrows; Internal Candidates Miss Cut

Changing guard at the top for GRPD police chiefGRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (June 20, 2014) — Friday, the city of Grand Rapids announced that the list of candidates for the next police chief has narrowed.

“During the community meetings, we gathered information from 800 citizens who helped develop the Community Police Chief Profile. I promised to circle back with those who attended and afford them time to meet the top finalists for the position. I am hoping Grand Rapids residents and business owners will participate in one of two community forums to share with me who they believe is best suited to lead the men and women of the Grand Rapids Police Department,” City manager Greg Sundstrom stated in a press release.

Sundstrom said the finalists will be announced Monday morning at 9:30.

Captain Jeffrey Hertel confirmed with FOX 17 that four internal candidates did not make the cut. He said the internal candidates include Captain Eric Payne, Lieutenant William Nowicki, Captain David Kiddle and himself.

Two community forums will be held next week on June 25th and 26th.
