MARNE, Mich.— 9 fire departments from multiple counties responded to what was described as a fully-involved agricultural fire at a barn/stable early Sunday morning.
The fire was reported shortly after 1:30 a.m. at Burdick Farms on 16th Ave in Marne, which is located in Ottawa County. When crews first arrived, they reported heavy flames and smoke from the structure, and immediately started calling for additional manpower.
One by one, the additional departments arrived. There were fears of gas tanks in near proximity being exposed to the flames, as well as tractors and other vehicles.
Thanks to the swift and extensive response from all the departments (some of which came from Kent County) the fire was extinguished in right around an hour. However, those at the farm tell us they lost hundreds of thousands of dollars' worth of equipment and property.
It is not clear how it all started. No injuries were reported at this time. An insurance adjuster will be out to survey all the damage.
